i built tons of blogs with wordpress over the years, they used to be great, but now all the themes look the same, with 3 pics up top and exerpts underneath… but the biggest problem is is that now wordpress attracts hackers, and if you like to use plugins and themes, you are responsible for keeping track of every coder’s life, to see if they stop updating, thereby leaving you vulnerable to attack.. because if every single theme or plugin or anything else is not ‘up to date’ i would get hacked, until finally my webhost threatened to cancel my account… wordpress is not the best, they may have been once, but now they are just the most mainstream and nobody can compete and make a better product, so i moved to squarespace for my blogs, and just leave a static site on my web page…

I am sorry to hear about your experience. However, most likely you are not following the basic internet security protocols that even WordPress encourages. For example, hardening of your files and permissions, moving wp-content and wp-config.php, using a secure FTP, changing the default wp_ table prefix, etc., etc. There are plugins that will actually do these things for you.

What you stated is very similar to the misnomer that Apple is safer than Microsoft. Even several security experts would state that Microsoft is much more secure simply because of their massive user base and marketshare compared to Apple’s. However, since I am aware that you prefer free plugins/themes, etc., over some top notch premium plugins/themes, that’s what you can expect regarding the coder’s dropping the plugin. My philosophy on the sites I build is to fork many, or most plugins I use for that reason. Good luck squarespace!

If we are talking for BLOGGING than I would say Blogger is always middle, Drupal definitely not for blogs, Joomla is getting better and better for bloggers too… but wordpress.org is still on the top, even with all these vulnerabilities is no 1 blogging platform.
